Privacy Policy

Last updated 25 October 2026

This notice explains what personal data we collect when you visit this website or buy from us, why we use it and the choices you have. We have written it in plain English; if anything is unclear, email info@brittica.co.uk.

Who we are

Brittica, 18 Arthington Court, Moor Road, Leeds, LS10 2LW, United Kingdom, is the controller of your personal data under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. For any privacy question or request, email info@brittica.co.uk, call +44 7424 125019 or write to us at that address.

What we collect

  • When you order: your name, email address, delivery and billing address, phone number (if you give it), the products you buy, and your order, delivery and refund history. Our checkout also records your IP address and browser type with each order, to help prevent fraud.
  • When you pay: card and wallet payments are handled by WooPayments, a service of Automattic powered by Stripe. They collect your card details directly on the secure checkout. We never see or store your full card number; we only see the card type, the last four digits and whether the payment succeeded.
  • When you contact us: your name, email address and message.
  • If you create an account: your name, email address, saved addresses and a securely hashed password. An account is optional and never needed to order.
  • If you sign up for emails: your email address, when and where you signed up, and when you confirmed. We email you a confirmation link first and add you only when you click it (or when you tick the box at checkout).
  • If you write a review: your star rating, your review, the name you choose to show, and the order it relates to.

Why we use it, and our legal basis

  • To take payment, deliver your order and handle cancellations, returns and refunds, because this is needed to perform our contract with you.
  • To keep order and payment records, because UK tax and accounting law requires it (legal obligation).
  • To prevent fraud and keep the website secure, in our legitimate interests and yours. Payments are screened automatically by Stripe, and a payment that looks fraudulent may be declined. If that happens, contact us and a person will review your order.
  • To answer your messages and send emails about your order (confirmation, dispatch, refunds), to perform our contract or in our legitimate interest in replying to you.
  • To send offers and news by email, only with your consent. You can withdraw it at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email or by emailing us.
  • To ask for and publish reviews: we email you once, about 21 days after your order is completed, to invite a review, in our legitimate interest in sharing honest customer feedback. We publish your review only with your agreement, and we publish every genuine review, positive or negative. We never offer anything in return for a review.
  • To offer you Google Customer Reviews, only if you accept cookies (see below).

Google Customer Reviews

If you have accepted cookies, the order confirmation page shows an invitation from Google Customer Reviews. To show it, we pass Google your order number, email address, delivery country and an estimated delivery date. Google uses these only if you choose to take part: it then emails you a short survey about your purchase after delivery, under Google’s privacy policy. Your rating may appear in Brittica’s seller rating on Google. If you decline, or have not accepted cookies, nothing is sent to Google.

Who we share it with

We share only what each provider needs to do its job, and they may use it only for that purpose:

  • Automattic (WooPayments) and Stripe, to process payments, refunds and fraud checks;
  • Hostinger, which hosts our website and business email and, if you opted in, sends our marketing emails;
  • Google, only if you accept cookies and choose to take part in Google Customer Reviews (see above);
  • GoAffPro, which runs our partner programme: if you arrive through a partner’s link and accept cookies, or use a partner’s discount code, it records the referral and your order number and value so that we can pay the partner. Partners never see your name, address or email;
  • our delivery carrier, which receives your name, delivery address and, where needed for delivery updates, your email address or phone number;
  • our professional advisers, and HMRC or other authorities where the law requires it.

We never sell your personal data or share it with other companies for their own marketing.

Transfers outside the UK

Some of our providers, including Automattic, Stripe and Google, process data in the United States. When your data is transferred outside the UK, it is protected by the UK–US data bridge or by the UK’s approved international data transfer agreements.

How long we keep it

  • Order and payment records: 6 years after the end of the financial year in which you ordered, as tax law requires.
  • Messages and enquiries: up to 2 years.
  • Account details: until you ask us to close your account (your order records are still kept for the 6-year period).
  • Email sign-ups: until you unsubscribe. After that we keep a record that you unsubscribed, so that we never email you again.
  • Reviews: while they are published. You can ask us to remove yours at any time.

Your rights

You have the right to ask for a copy of your personal data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it (you can always object to marketing), and to receive it in a portable format. To make a request, email info@brittica.co.uk. It is free, and we will reply within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office: ico.org.uk or 0303 123 1113.

Cookies and browser storage

These are strictly necessary for the website to work, so they are always on:

  • WooCommerce cookies that keep your basket and checkout working and keep you signed in if you have an account;
  • Stripe cookies on the checkout that help prevent payment fraud;
  • browser storage that remembers the items in your cart on this website;
  • a cookie (brittica_consent) that remembers your cookie choice for 6 months.

Optional, used only if you click “Accept” on our cookie banner: the Google Customer Reviews invitation on the order confirmation page, which loads Google’s script and may set Google’s own cookies; and GoAffPro’s partner-tracking cookies (ref and gfp_*), which remember for up to 30 days which partner, if any, sent you to us. If you click “Reject” or ignore the banner, it is not loaded. You can change your choice at any time with the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page. We do not currently use analytics or advertising cookies.

Children

Our products are sold only to adults aged 18 or over, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Changes to this notice

We will update this notice if the way we use personal data changes, and change the date at the top of this page when we do.
